News from Oregon, USA and Taipei, Taiwan, September 15, 2009. Headquartered in Oregon, USA, Fresco Logic Inc, which specializes in the development of ultra-high-speed transmission application ICs, announced that it has begun to provide USB3.0 host control IC-FL100. FL1000 is a PCI Express to USB 3.0 bridge chip, which is connected to the south bridge or north bridge chip on the computer motherboard through the PCI Express interface, realizing that USB3.0 peripheral devices can communicate with the computer host at an ultra-high transmission speed of 5Gbps. Currently FL1000 has begun to send samples to major customers. At the same time, Rise Technology also provides FL1000 PCI Express add-in card or Express card to customers for system compatibility testing. FL1000 PCI Express add-in card has also been officially designated by USB-IF as the reference standard of the PIL (Platform Integration Lab) host specification xHCI (Extensible Host Controller Interface) of the USB3.0 Platform Integration Lab, and further adopted it as USB3.0 One of the host standards of the peripheral product development kit PDK (USB 3.0 xHCI-based Peripheral Development Kit). FL1000 has a unique design framework and a high degree of integration, which can shorten product design time for customers, and at the same time present the highest efficiency with the most economical cost effect.

Brian O'Rourke, Chief Analyst of In-Stat, said: "The global super-high-speed USB (USB3.0) market is expected to reach 1 billion devices in 2013. Fresco Logic said It has contributed a lot to this industry, especially the provision of product development components that comply with the USB3.0 xHCI standard to meet market development needs, and establish a solid position of Ruisi Technology in this industry."

The FL1000 bridge chip supports the USB 3.0 Rev 1.0 specification and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 standards. Its PCI Express interface is compatible with PCI Express Gen I and Gen II standards and can match the mainstream chipsets currently on the market. FL1000 integrates a 5 Gbps USB3.0 physical layer transceiver, a host controller that complies with the latest version of the xHCI standard, and a PCI Express controller and physical layer transceiver.

FL1000 not only shows the performance advantage of USB3.0 in handling large amounts of data transmission, but also continues the past USB2.0 usage mode. This feature allows applications that are sensitive to bandwidth requirements, such as next-generation external hard drives, solid state drives, or high-definition image transmission applications, to get rid of the speed bottleneck of USB2.0 in the past. It is easy and immediate to use the high-speed performance of FL1000 to upgrade to USB3.0. With FL1000, actually moving a high-definition video or several Gigabyte files between a computer and a USB3.0 external device takes only one-tenth of the time when using USB2.0 in the past. In addition to the increase in speed, the hardware architecture of FL1000 eliminates the problem of firmware adjustment when the system is imported, and FL1000 does not require external Flash. These two not only reduce the cost of system design, but also speed up the time to market.

FL1000 specifications

The FL1000 package specifications are LQFP 100-pin and TFBGA 84 pin, and the package sizes are 12mm x 12mm and 8mm x 8mm, respectively. LQFP package samples are now available, and TFBGA package samples are available in October. The product will begin mass production in the fourth quarter of 2009.
